The Chanter Epic - The winding tale from a casual

OK, Lets first start out saying that you MUST be level 50 to do this quest.

I realized that when i was 49 trying to do the quest in LGUK. One of the reasons I was in Lower Guk was to faction, get experience and hunt for FS weapons for smithing.

There are a couple of chanter mobs down there; Corrupted gnome (who is killed for a part of the froglok illusion quest), Arch Magus (Who is killed for Shiny Metallic Robes part of the mechanical pen quest) and Ghoul Scribe (who you charm to get ink of the dark)

The first quest for the chanter epic is to get three items for Stofo Olan who is on the 2nd floor of the inn of vastly deep. The first building on the left when entering Euridin.

If you are under 50, I would recommend leveling in lower Guk and clearing out the mobs until you spawn and kill the arch magus first get the Shiny Metallic Robes, then level to 50 and go to Qeynos to get ink of the dark.

If over 50, then the best thing to do is go to Qeynos and enter the catacombs below. When i the catacombs, Use your human illusion, and hit the find button to find Reania Jukle. I actually had to be in the middle of the catacombs before the find button worked. I then proceeded to follow the yellow find path casting benevolence on any mob that moved. After getting to Reania Jukle it was pretty much straight forward.

You: 'what is the ink of the dark?'
Reania Jukle: 'Ink of the Dark, you say? That isn't an everyday item, you know. In fact i can't remember the last time someone requested it. I have given up keeping any here with me. You are going to need to find your own supply now. Sorry.'

You: 'where can I find the ink of the dark?
Reania Jukle says: 'The ink is the blood of a dark scribe. Tempt him and give him this vial. He should cooperate.'
You receive an Empty Ink Vial.

Then go to Lower Guk.

You would be going from the ghoul scribe room to the arch magus room waiting for each of them to spawn.

The ghoul scribe is located at 545, -730.
The arch magus is located at 1175, -880.

I was fortunate to have the Shiny metallic robes from factioning my Sk.

So after turning 50 (thanks Tlak and Overeasy for factioning in DS), I went to Qeynos got my ink of dark and proceeded to camp the scribe. Spawn rate for all mobs in LGUK is 30 minutes. Luckily I only camped him for 4 spawns. I mezzed the Ghoul scribe then charmed. He actually broke charm while i was digging in inventory for empty vial. Mezz, charm, Turned in empty vial and bang Ink of the dark.

The next step was to get the mechanical pen in In Akanon by talking to Rilgor Plegnog and giving him the Shiny Metallic robes.

This was pretty easy for me. I zoned in, Hit find, cast gnome illusion, cast benevolence on a couple of mobs, and away i went.

You: 'What do you know about a mechanical pen?'
Rilgor Plegnog says: 'Why do you want one of those contraptions. You will spend more time repairing it then you will writing with it. But if you insist on getting one, you are going to have to do a small favor.'
You: 'What small favor.'
Rilgor Plegnog tugs at your robe and grins evilly. Mighty nice outfit you have there. Sure beats these drab robes us three are wearing. Hmm...my favorite color is purple, in fact a shiny metallic purple would do nicely. How bad did you want that pen?'

You give Rilgor Plegnog a Shiny Metallic Robe.
Rilgor Plegnog says: 'Very nice!! It is perfect! Here take this pen. Have fun with it.'
You receive A Mechanical Pen.

After reading the web about the last mob of the first quest I was more than slightly apprehensive.

Luckily the night was boring and Tlak, Maglor, and Mahina were available. We went to Western Karana to location 800,-11500. Which is almost all the way across the board. (Its a toss up whether to go through the spires or hoof it)

Bring a quill and parchment with you to Wk. Go to Chrislin Baker who is in the middle house on the left side of the zone after first entering WK.

You: 'hail Chrislin Baker'
Chrislin Baker slowly lifts her head. 'Have you brought any writing materials for me? The last few supplies I had were stolen.'

You: 'what writing materials'
Chrislin Baker: 'A passing illusionist gave me some enchanted writing materials. He said they would help inspire me to capture my mind's images on paper. If you would just be so kind as to bring me plain old paper and a quill from Qeynos, I can get back to writing.

You turn in the Paper and Quill
Chrislin Baker: gives you a hug. 'Thank you so much. I did some cleaning after you left and found this behind a barrel. It may have been left behind by the person who took my materials. You can have it.'
You receive a Bandit Sash

Receiving the sash will spawn Thracken Griften, a level 55 very aggressive Bandit at around Lock 800,-11570. You need to kill him to get the white paper.

Did turn in to Chrislin Baker and while I was running back to spawn location Maglor sent tell that ob was dead. Serious overkill, but I would rather have that than under kill. (i.e wipe)

Looted the white paper then ran back to Eroding and did turn in to Stofo Olan to get copy of notes.

Ran to Burning Woods for next mob, which was You give the Heb Lumped. Who is a sank imitator at location(-559,1360). Who was up but Benevolence did not enable me to go in. Did not want to try mezzo since I was tired.

So I logged off to adventure again at a later date.

Did a little research to find out what staff segment that I could do next.

So I looked at the test of enlightenment

I was fortunate to have the sthingy (kill Cazel in Oasis of Marr) in inventory from an NRO LDON a year earlier. So I thought Hmm the rest of these looks like just invis and pick up an item.

Went to the west of the spot and cast Levi and Invis. Went to the spawn point (Loc is -188,31,-380.94) No the One Key. marked spot in Map.

Went to the Crypt of Dralnir. Cast Invis - went a walking found spot (loc is -20, 50) No Lost Scroll. Marked spot on map.

Thought Bummer. Im not even going to try plane of Sky.

Went on DS exp grind (Need higher level tanks to pull faster and kill quicker)

After that put chanter on the One Key spot.

Any wizzy's have port to PoSky?

Well got my staff segment 2 last night.

Logged in last night and checked both spawn points and sure enought there the were.

Sent tell to get to Plane of Sky. Got port and bought key from Key master for 1cp.

Clicked on ring and was ported to small room. The Book
of Charm and Sacrifice is found in the left hand corner table (since there are two tables in room I did not get the location).

To leave Plane of Air simply jump out and you will land in East Freeport.

I then went to Ak'Anon to loc +2030, -520 and hailed
You: Hail Clockwork VIIX!
You: Are you mizzle?

At that point I thought. Why am I sending him tells?

Just give him Jeb's seal and he will give you the bag.

Popped the 4 items into the bag and combined. haneded back to Mizzle and got staff segment.

Finis 2

I am currently researching Test Of Charm which is the third section of staff.

I held of on posting this part of my quest because I wanted to complete it.

After a week of trying to this turn in at least 1 or 2 times a day, I finally hooked up with The Chanter of Love on Wednesday to do a mini raid. We got a lot of guildies to help and we whacked some reavers.

Learned a lot about the upper parts of the zone and we were able to complete parts of Flassee's epic.

I think the raid started around 8 and ended around 2. we tried 3 times to get the Wraith of Jaxion to Spawn. No wraith, So I camped rogue on platform to check later on.

Thursday -

Did some more research on the zone and realized that we probably would not get a full mini raid to help us out.

I noticed that pesky Dwarf was logged on so I logged on rogue and our spawn was up. Sent a tell and Jessemarie, Mahedros and I were back in COM ready to rock.

Took some advise from the websites and used the back way to get in. This avoided clearing the back room and the reaver area. I have posted the directions that I got from Allas.

After you zone in, invis up and run until you come to the Iron Gates that enter the city. Path goes left or right, go right. You will see a set of bricks with a tunnel, door between them on your left (looks like a pyramid starting) and there is a waterfall to the right of the door.

Go forward and enter through the door. Once you enter the door there is a skellie that you will have to kill. Kill it. Here is where we got a little lost, run straight ahead through door. So there is one door and right in front of you there is a second door.

Once you go in the second door, do up the ramp/stairs until you are on the observatory. There are two undead mobs up here that you will have to kill as well.

As you are facing looking out the guard tower thing with ramp to your back, there is a wall to your right ATTACHED to the guard tower, not the wall ABOVE the guard tower that is further away.Jump up on this wall and you should see a large walkway just out of jumping range.

Well, if you notice there is a BANNER on the wall that juts out JUST enough for you to stand on. So, while standing on the wall of the Guard tower, levitate yourself and float over until you are standing on the top ledge of this banner.
You must be a medium race or illusion of medium race otherwise you will be too short to make the required jump.

Now you are standing on this banner sticking off the wall. turnaround and face the wall that the banner is jutting off of, While facing this wall, look up and hit jump and forward...you will jump up onto the ledge of a walkway. There will be lots of mobs up here most stationary but some wanderers so have Paci and Mezz/memblur up before you jumped.

Now, there is a door immediately to your right...open, There are two doors at opposite end of room, take the door to the LEFT! PAY ATTENTION HERE.....As soon as you enter that door, there is a FAKE WALL ON THE LEFT, don't run down hallway, enter door, face left, go through invisi wall.

Once you did this you are on the invisi bridge that takes you to the platforms...CONGRATS! YOU JUST BYPASSED THE REAVERS!!!

We encountered some serious goos here and got aggro from about 4 to 5 mobs. Great Job on healing Jesse!

At this point I logged in my rogue in order to open the door at the second hut. We logged in the rogue because the goos see through invis. They also respawn behind you.

So we brought rogue in up to first hut logged chanter back on and killed mobs to the second door.

Logged in rogue, picked lock to open the door and killed our way to the third hut where the Wraith of Jaxion was floating around.

Mahedros charmed him and we went back to the locked second door, picked it and went out on the path between the 1st and 2nd hut.

Got aggro and Mahed mezzed. Logged rogue to bring back chanter and BANG LD!

After Tearing through my house, Checking server connection, Turn over server and box repowering Log back in.

There was Mahedros and Jesse still there. Turned in my Dull ruby and got Enchanted Ruby. Left Wraith for other chanters and gated back to POK.

YEA ! A mission complete. Next step Impaler Tzilug in Overthere

Well this was kind of fun and harrowing at the same time.

The three mobs needed after ruby are:

Diamond - Spectral Librarian - Kaesora
Emerald - Impaler Tzilug - Overthere
Sapphire - Felia Goldenwing - Skyshrine

I decided to go to Kaesora first since I had been there before and seemed like an easy mob.

Buffed up, cast Levitation, and had my pet up. Figured that when I got close kill the pet for charm.

When you enter Kaesora bring up your map. There is a pit on the left. Drop down into the pit. Directly ahead of you should be a door, open it. There is usually a spider inside that see invis. Kill at your leisure, then drop down the next hole on the other side of the door and you are in the bottom of the dungeon.

There are a couple of spiders, kill them then go invis to undead. The librarian is around -400, 100. He has a PH the Totured Librarian. I was lucky and he was up. Dropped Invis when I cast charm. He proceeded to kill the aggro in the library. Did turn in and bang gated back to POK.

Enchanted Diamond - Check !

The next item was the Emerald in Overthere.

Impaler Tzilug is in the same building that you take to go to Charasis or Howling Stones. Instead of taking a left you would take a right. Around location 900, -100.

I made sure my chanter had fresh set of Buffs, Levi and Rune and camped down the bottom of the chasm.

Brought in Necro and he softened the zone a little by killing some of the wandering mobs (i.e. Skorpkis guardians). Logged him off and brought chanter in.

I went down the passageway and charmed. The Impaler and he proceeded to hold his own against the other mobs.

I did get some aggro but when the came close to me I backed up and mezzed. The impaler continued to do his dirty work and killed 2 of them.

After that he broke charm and I ran to the entrance outside of the building. There were 3 of them included the impaler. Mezzed, Charmed the impaler, Did turn in, Port back to POK.

Enchanted Emerald - Check !

Well the next step was the to go to skyfire. After arriving there and went invise and proceeded to go to the recommended spawn point. (I'm not listing it here because it was bad advice)

After popping into zone a couple time that day and looking I decided to log in my brother's Druid for a little 1 on 1 tracking.

Fortunately I double box on the same comp. After entering zone I went to the wizard port in and hit Track.

Bang Felia Goldenwing is up. i move chanter from spawn point to wizard zone in.

Let me tell you this mob moves. She went all over the southern end of this zone from the druid port in all the way to the lava rivers. I had a heck of a time tracking her down and double boxing with the Chanter to get there before she moved again.

So my recommendation - Bring a tracker - this is not a static spawn. She moves all over the place and only stays still for less than a minute before moving again.

I finally was able to charm her do turn in and gated back to POK.

Enchanted Sapphire - Check !

Combined everything in the bag and I now have staff segment 3

Well Last night was checking on Epic mobs and decided to do an "easier" epic mob kill.

The mob is called The Tangrin is found in the Field of Bone. He has Very High Magic resists and summons - How a monk has the ability to summon is beyond me.

We were able to form a group of 5 toons - Silver, Emagine, Jessie, Rumblood and my Chanter.

After some slight problems (aggro of Ikky trooper and an a miscommunication) we went out to the small island on the east of the big island.

The Tangrin roams the island and we just basically charged and attacked. He summoned but we were able to handle him and the group killed him fine.

As a side note Nothing absolutely nothing that i was able to cast landed on him except for tash.

I received: Sands of the Mystic

Maglor signed on and offered to help me get the piece out of the Hole. So our fine group split with Rum and Silver going to POD, while Jesse, Lowean, Maglor, Emagine and my chanter going to the Hole.

The Mob name is the Ghost of Kindle and she is pretty deep in the hole, but not as deep as some mobs.

After doing a couple of cannonballs into the swimming pool we zoned into the Hole and proceeded down.

I was very thankful that in the beginning Lowean could see the mob on track! Whoo hoo!

The Hole is a fun zone, as in more challenging and you have to kill things to get there. I think I like city zones since you have to "crawl" to your mob.

Hats off to Maglor for leading us to the mob. The
location of the ghost of kindle -87, 181, -304, however, the process of getting there is pretty twisty.

We were fortunate to have single pulls the majority of the way with only about 10 doubles and i think 1 triple. Luckily I was able to do a decent job of crowd control and we had a great group.

At the end the kill was kind of anti-climatic since we killed tougher mobs getting there.

But we prevailed and Essence of a Ghost was mine.

I had fun on this crawl and it was good experience and no deaths.

At this time need two more kills for staff segment. The Essence of a Vampire in Hate and the Head of the Shissar in Fear.

Ok this weekend I decided to do the Snow Blossoms part of the chanter quest. On Saturday I logged in my chanter and proceeded to Ogguk. Forgot to use Ogre Illusion so I got lite up by the bashers. Managed to zone and came back with illusion ready to go. Went in and darned if a chanter was there 5 seconds before me got my drop. ARGHH. The drop is a sack behind Brokk Boxtripper is +222, +383, +61 in a Flintstone house(muddy sandals are found behind him). You can use find to find him.

Ok I thought, 24 hour spawn, so I logged off until Sunday.

Sunday -

Logged On, Cast illusion, picked up Large Muddy Sandals.

CAST INVIS !! - Shaman mob saw through illusion and whacked me.

Bozlum LOC is +541,+1,155,+81. And after giving shoes to Bozlum she gives you a Scribbled Parchment to return to Brokk.

CAST INVIS !! Gave note to Brokk, he will give you Gift to Bozlum.

CAST INVIS !! return and give gift to Bozlum and she gives you the Snow Blossoms.

Gate!

Monday Night -

Last night was a good night for Epic mobs for me. Came back after dinner and Maglor was on. He logged in his ikky shaman and my mob Vessel Drozil was up. We got a small group. Browkin, Chalk, Cillabusy, Maglor, and Forthe. Let me tell you this mob is buried DEEP inside the shaman guild in East Cabilis. So far Maglor has been extremely helpful in finding these off the wall chanter mobs for me. So went and found the mob at location 590, -825. we were just getting ready to attack when Browkin went LD. We waited about 5 minutes then went for it.

Maglor tanked it. Cillabusy was healing Maglor. Chalk was casting Nukes and Dots. Forthe was going to town on him. Nothing was landing on it until I tashed. Cast Demntia but i wasn't doing much damage on nukes.

Maglor dragged the mob into the pit in the water which prevented him from walking through the one-way doors and we killed the mob in the water. YEA!

Xolion Rod - Check.

Feeling Lucky, I went to Neriak to check on the next mob Verina Tomb. She is located in Neriak 3rd gate in the cleric guild, location 412,-810. We all invised up and moved to 3rd gate. Forthe went to cleric guild, pulled mob and recieved a little nukage which Cilla healed up. We then DPS'd, Nuked, and Dotted her to death. Within 2 minutes she was gone. Much easier fight than the Vessel Drozil.

Looted Innoruuk's Word. Whoo Hoo.

Was looking forward to getting into Chardok last night for the Prince's Head. I got there a little early to see what was happening in the zone.

There was a group of 4 individuals working there way down to the King. I followed them down and along the way Forthe joined me. When we got to the entrance of the castle we got invited to the raid. Those guys were really really good.

With the raid Forthe and I proceeded to go the Prince's room (I got to Loot head!!) The King's room then the Queen's room. My goodness there were a LOT of mobs.

After getting the head I then went to Southern Felwithe to talk to Joren Nobleheart. He is at location +75, -655. Which is the Magician's Guild.

You say, 'Hail, Joren Nobleheart'

Joren Nobleheart says 'I hope you have been sent by the King. There is an urgent matter at hand.'

You say, 'I have been sent by the King.'

Joren Nobleheart says, 'Our sources at the outpost have learned that the Chardokian royal family had a part in the disappearance of Firiona Vie. I have been ordered by King Tearis Thex to locate the individuals familiar with the new lands and to order them to the gates of Chardok Mountain. Do you accept the king's order?'

You say, 'I accept the king's order.'

Joren Nobleheart says, 'Gather your forces and march on the gates of Chardok. You are to strike deep into the home of Overking Bathezid. Your goal is not the overking himself, but his only living heir. His son's head will be the price to pay for their envolvement in this kidnapping.'

Head to Chardok and kill Prince Selrach Di`zok. Loot his Head of a Prince and bring it back to Joren Nobleheart.

Joren Nobleheart says, 'Vengence has been fulfilled. However, the King still has a heavy heart. Not until Firiona has been returned can this sadness be lifted. But in appreciation of your efforts. I am honored to present to you the King's Chalice.'

You receive the Chalice of Kings.

I then took my four items: Chalice of Kings, Xolion Rod, Snow Blossoms, and Innoruuk's Word. with Jeb's seal and went to Overthere.

The mob we need is Modani Qu'Loni. He is at location +540, -940. He is on the other side of the chasm of the entrance of Howling Stones. I went Invisible and found him in the far east room. Luckily, there was no mobs around him. I backed up a little, clicked of invise and he conned amiable to me. Gave him the seal, he gave me the bag. Put my four items in. Hit combine. Bing !

Well, My daughter was sick yesterday so I had a chance to take care of my addiction.

I was looking around in the bazaar trying to find some good deals when I saw that a person Benalek (I think his name was) starting calling out the Ashenbone Shield was rotting in hate. I figured, what the heck, I'll send him a tell. He replies back, come on to hate. So I log onto Bane to put the stones in shared bank. Log onto Ruinchant and off to hate I go.

We started killing mobs found out a 55 chanter can slow some of the time, nuke some of the time, and thought this is a death trap waiting for some poor chanter. Luckily Benalek was a mage and I was able to cast Clarity II on him and Celerity on pet. We were there about 45 minutes. Then Bang ! Essence of Vampire drops right at the entrance to zone.

Say my thanks and ask if my Sk can visit for his epic item.

He says sure and away I go to POK with my 2nd to Last Epic item.

Mahedros tells me you were as lucky as he was. Only for him, he logged on, and the Essence of Vampire was already rotting in Hate. Was a run to race there and get into it, but he got it. As did you.

Always like it when a chanter gets lucky. Well, except that arrogant one. (OUCH!)
